Light and dark
I was hoping to go and see the Turners today, but when I turned up in the Royal Academy building this afternoon, it was only to discover there was an estimated 40 minute queue to see them. Someone else I know also had that experience this afternoon, so they went to the exhibition of drawings from Dürer to van Dyck. It looks fascinating, but I decided just to come home and commune a little more with my laptop hoping that I might be able to get in and see the Turners by turning up one day around 9.45/9.50 just around first entry. This is the disadvantage of the exhibition being free and not bookable. It obviously gives an advantage to those who are prepared to invest the time in queuing.
Anyway, I had an interesting day. I got up early doors and went over to the swimming pool, and managed 28 lengths of the 25 yard (yes, yards) pool. That's a lot less than used to be "par", but I need to rebuild my pool swimming fitness. I was pleased I managed to expel myself from my bed at 6.10am to go swimming but my Fitbit wasn't functioning properly, so while it recorded a swim, it said that I only consumed around 20 calories doing those lengths. Hmmmm.
After a quick online meeting at home, I spent the rest of the morning at the RSE at an interesting in person seminar, where I learned quite a lot, and then I had lunch at the National Gallery with a couple of the people who were at the seminar. Also interesting, although I was struggling to hear.
So while the day didn't have Turners, it did have some compensations, including the excellent light as I walked through St Andrew Square this morning. If the photo doesn't seem too high quality, that is because it's quite heavily cropped out of a phone photo. Beggars cannot be choosers.
However, in other news, we had excellent news about staffing today, which comes as something of a surprise.
