Sunrise 9.50am

A beautiful morning. Lots of lying water and flooding on the roads but if you looked in the right direction, you could see clear blue sky, occasionally!

Poor John had had a night of bad dreams and confusion. The sitting room was strewn with his outdoor clothes, wellies, big jackets, jumpers and the rest.
He didn't know who I was, and his speech was jumbled up and only odd words were understandable.  I made him a cup of coffee, but he just wanted to go back to sleep.
Later in the afternoon the locum doctor came out to see him. No sign of infection or illness, simply his dementia. The hospital is full of flu patients, there are no beds in any of the care homes, there are no carers either. Unfortunately John can no longer make a cup of coffee, let alone make a sandwich or heat a ready meal. We had a very small glass of wine each while his dinner heated and we had a nice quiet chat about nothing much. His confusion continued. As I left he told me to enjoy myself in Newcastle, but not to talk to strangers!
Tomorrow is going to have to be a day of phone calls and emails.
