Bat
Last day of the holidays pottered and a failed attempt at a ski, collected my fixed car ( two weeks off the road with a bust spring) all cosied in for the evening til we realised that N had randomly bought tix to see Bat Out of Hell at The Playhouse.
A bit like We Will Rock You, the story wrapped around Meatloaf songs and not a tribute band as N thought. Consequently we were a tad bemused with what the hell was going on in the first half, so much so N nearly left at halftime again.
Frantic Wikipedia-ing gave clarity that it’s based on the Peter Pan story, a tenuous Aha, so that’s what’s going on!
However, I still found it not brilliant. I’m no prude but some of it was overly sexualised and felt a bit 70s Pans People but there again maybe I’m finally getting a bit woke in my old age.
Having the band on stage and part of the set really worked with phenomenal sound, however the use of a cameraman onstage projecting the lead singers onto two screens, I was less keen. The singers sang to the cameraman not the audience which felt strange and a bit self conscious.
Other than that some incredible voices especially the two female leads, Raven and Sloane but the lead Strat felt an octave too high, probably due to his toight troos.
All in all it was good, not excellent and for me ,not a must see but a seen that, done that, didn’t buy the programme.
