Just before my mother's time at Wimbledon
Went to the Wimbledon museum and archives to find out about my mother and her four sisters who played in the juniors or seniors from 1931 to 1959. They hold the record for multiple siblings - there were no others except pairs. Viola White (no. 4) had the fastest serve until Billie Jean King arrived and when she played in the mixed doubles it was with a new chap every year. She learned to play against the garage door over cobbles until she was good enough to play with her older sisters. She beat them all in the end! The extra is about 1875 - women played in corsets and couldn't bend over to pick up balls so they had ball pockets sewn into their tennis dresses.
