Blease Hall
Spotted on todays walk in the sunshine, how welcome was that!. Built in circa 1600 for Robert Bateman a cloth manufacturer. Apparently it has a dobbie stone in the attic to prevent ghosts from disturbing the family :- The daughter of the family living in an earlier house on the site died of sorrow when her lover failed to return from the Crusades, in the 13th century. Her ghostly funeral procession is seen passing, now and then. (Thanks to the Old Cumbria Gazetteer for this information)
The house was bult by the same masons who built Levens Hall (probably) . It looked very out of place when compared with farmhouses in the area.
