Life's tangled skein

Bayeux Tapestry

This is a scene from the Bayeux Tapestry. The real, honest-to-goodness Bayeux Tapestry!

Almost 70m long, the tapestry was made in the 1070s. It commemorates William The Conqueror's victory over King Harold at the Battle Of Hasdtings in 1066.

The tapestry is displayed behind glass at the Musee de la Tapisserie in Bayeux. You get a little handset that you hold to your ear, and you walk along the length of the tapestry, the voice in the handset interpreting what you are seeing. This is of course the scene where Harold is shot in the eye with an arrow.

I am not a great one for "gee, that's old", but to see a piece of cloth that was stitched together almost a thousand years ago... that was quite something!
