In the absence of fireworks to photograph to bring in the New Year these Amaryllis will have to do. There were some local fireworks but nothing of significance. And definitely nothing on the scale or duration of the London fireworks!

It was a quiet new year. The tradition of moving round houses has diminished in recent years. Given the weather which was not too bad (but windy at midnight) it was perhaps understandable. And when the weather turned horribly wet and windy even more so.

Shortly after midnight I completed my 1,000th Wordle. I failed 8 times either because I forgot or could not solve (3 occasions I think) or because of Americanisms. I’ll probably continue while I can: good mental exercise. It was luck on the one occasion I got it first time. My majority success was 4 guesses to get the solution (534 times). On second attempt: 8 times; third attempt 131 times; 5th attempt 257 times and last gasp 6th attempt 61 times. It claims my maximum streak was 220 but the system kept rebooting so I don’t know if that was the final run.
