Getting It Handed To You

We were feeling a tiny bit stir crazy today as we'd only managed to get outside for one short run since Christmas Eve so after another short run this morning and some more exercise we decided a short trip out was needed for a change of scenery.
Of course that had to include a quick stop off for a pint at The Wateringbury before continuing our journey, in the by now gathering fog and low mist, back to Broadview Gardens in Hadlow. We'd really only gone there on the off chance that they would be open but were happy to find that they were and on this occasion we did not come across a single other soul whilst we were there. It felt even more atmospheric than on our previous visit with the descending mist giving it an almost otherworldly feel.
My image was virtually handed to me on a plate at it was the very first thing I saw as we entered the formal part of the gardens that I somehow managed to miss on our last visit. This fabulously expressive sculpture of a hand was surrounded by hardy palms and shrubs with some of the more tender exotic plants shrouded in the ghost like fleeces that you can see in the background.
Once we'd finished our stroll around the gardens we stopped off in Hadlow village itself for a walk along its side streets and through the churchyard of St. Mary's where you got an imposing view of Hadlow Tower as it loomed out of the mist (which I have tagged here from my shared journal with my brother - https://www.blipfoto.com/entry/3321073827244409731 as I still have no extras left).
We really enjoyed our short but sweet visit back to Hadlow but by now it was becoming bitterly cold so it was time to head home for a warming bowl of my brother's homemade soup.
The rest of the day was spent grazing on Christmas leftovers and watching the festive edition of The Great Pottery Throw Down and the Top of The Pops review of 2024 with a couple of glasses of wine. My idea of a great time! :-)
