Spectacled eiders

Today we went to the Arundel WWT park. We often used to go there on Boxing Day when our children were young and have not been for several years.
There is a new enclosure, fully netted so the birds can not fly away, and in this we saw the spectacled eider which I thought were lovely. They are rare to see in the U.K. as they are natives of NW USA in Alaska. They are so named because of the large white spectacles around the eyes of the males. The females are not quite so spectacular looking!

It was rather dull and drizzly and very few people there although the town of Arundel seemed to be busy.

We called in at a friends house on the way back and we were amazed that both journeys had absolutely no traffic queues..or roadworks to hold us up!

Happy New Year to everyone reading this.
We will be at home but are having a neighbour in to have supper with us.
