Hogmanay 2024
The lights are on but there are no takers. I didn’t know what to expect as I left the house in semi darkness at 9am this morning. I was on my way to meet the Daughter who was in need of cheering up having had to cancel her drive up to Cullen for a NewYear’s day dip with a friend because of the weather forecast. She might have made it there but with snow and ice forecast later tomorrow she might not have made it back.
Edinburgh was wet and windy and incredibly depressing . The tourists were out in numbers wandering about in wet weather gear wondering what they would do now without the street party and fireworks tonight. I’m not sure if the Castle had reopened to the public after being closed early yesterday because of the wind. I imagine the pubs are doing a roaring trade.
I have considered going out again just to feel part of the world but as I write this , my get up and go has all but gone. Even the New Year’s Day dip is being reconsidered. I can feel the terrible urge to sink a tumblerful of Bayley’s Irish Cream even though no sun has appeared over any yard arm in the vicinity.
