Family First

I think that it is safe to say that the family didn’t quite have the day we all thought we were going to have today.

I was meant to be back at work with the children being looked after by my mum, but my father was not having a good day, so the wee ones were back with me.

Mum had then managed to get a specialist appointment brought forward to this afternoon, so there was some logistical reshuffling of the children and I escorted my parents down to Lancaster for the appointment. Whilst this had the appearance of being a helpful son, it was of course an entirely selfish act and I was hoping to meet a gorgeous nurse (preferably female) with a penchant for saggy-eyed bald men.

To give my father some degree of medical privacy, I won’t go into the details of his consultation, but suffice it to say, further investigation is required and recommendations have been made to enable him to function better in the meantime.

Times like these that I am grateful for the fact that we as a family all live so close to one another - until about 18 months ago we lived 300 miles apart!

Despite the absence of an attentive nurse on my arm with an exemplary bedside manner, the day finished on a nice note with a delicious tea courtesy of my sister and watching all of the children playing brilliantly together.
