Out with the Old, in with the New!

McCaviti would like a reflection blip for today's MM challenge, in some way "[summing] up your reflections on the past year or future resolutions".

For my effort today (with some helpful comments from my trusty Editor too) I've adopted a slightly wider scope, looking way back at how we lit the world in the past and how the present (and maybe the future) of lighting looks.

So this is my reproduction miners' lamp, but the pseudo "flame" effect was produced by holding an LED torch in such a way as to produce a reflection on the glass that looks as if it's coming from the wick. It's one of those torches with multiple small LEDs in it, hence the "mottled" appearance of the "flame". A fair bit of Photoshop trickery was required to make it look more realistic as if the light is beaming out from within.

In the nick of time (to use up my remaining extras for this year) I've managed to get my final day of Iceland backblips uploaded - the link is here.
