A prehistoric wander
Poor HImself has now come down with something unpleasant, a chesty cough and tingling skin. Will and I left him at home and went out for a day of adventuring, several interesting monuments on the agenda. The day was murky and atmospheric, not actually raining with occasional glimpses of a watery sun. We visited numerous stone circles, a stone row, boulder burials and yes, a holy well! We traversed minute pot-holed roads, clambered up the side of rugged mountains, gasped at the views and then going to the assemblage (! teeny stone circle, two massive up right stones and a radial cairn) in the main pic - Kealkil stone circle - Will got seriously stuck in the bog - right up to the top of the (newly purchased) hardcore boots. He was stuck firm and there were alarming gurgling noises and I had to step out gingerly to take his expensive camera and offer him an arm to grab on to! More squelching and he was eventually released, muddy but intact! That would have been a scary experience on your own. All good though and we managed to get to the enigmatic remains of Breeny Mor on the other side of the road as well as Maughanskilly row where we enjoyed an al fresco lunch.
Back home, Himself not brilliant and he later had an early night. We caught up with Joe and Esme, Esme sporting pink in her hair and flourishing a purple pen with a pompom from Santa. They had had a barbie and were eating fresh plums from the garden. I'll catch up at some point but hope everyone is surviving!
