One Handed Selfie

...and one handed sewing. Neither one terribly successful, but certainly a picture of what I've been doing almost all day. The weather is murky with unpredictable rain showers and we are quite enjoying a quiet day in this quiet week between Christmas and New Year. John read another chapter of Edward Abbey, I read another newsletter from Heather Cox Richardson. John went to the Farmers' Market in the rain and came home with but 4 apples, while I surveyed the shelved-for-the-holidays quilted coat project.

I've finished the two fronts and ordered a template for a star for the back. I'm afraid I fell for the 'one left, 2 in people's carts' prompt and ordered it without seeing how big it is, but it should be useful for something. I don't want to tackle the sleeves until I figure out the back, and I can't decide on the quilting until I go to the fabric store and get some batting and backing. I'm thinking of hand quilting it, so I decided to practice on the pockets....

We finally took ourselves out for a quick walk in the late afternoon with Spike and a chat with some neighbors. It seems that an elderly neighbor came knocking on their door one night having locked herself out of her house. They took her in, warmed her up, and called her daughter who came and got her. She hasn't been seen since, but word has it that she is in a care home, but they don't know which one and have heard nothing from the daughter. There are a lot of mysteries like that on this street...ones that we often don't hear about from our perch above the fray street. A lot of us worried about the elderly woman, alone in a house that hasn't seen much attention in many decades, nor, it would seem, has she. I hope she is in a happier place now, although she was adamant about not wanting to leave her home.

Tomorrow we may have to enter the marketplace to buy a new printer, but I will try to come up with some good reasons to put it off. Buying devices with cords is not high on my list of favorite things to do.
