A treat!

A visit to Bristol Old Vic this afternoon for Grace, Eda and I for a theatrical treat. This old theatre is a treat in itself in the heart of the Harbourside area of the city. The production was ‘The Little Mermaid’ but not exactly the traditional tale.

There are often different productions here sometimes from the National Theatre and the children's stories are always rather unexpected. We were here two years ago for The Nutcracker which was a bit odd, focusing on the past of the Mouse King. Today’s Little Mermaid stuck more to the story but with an environmental twist, the mermaid’s mission was to save the corals of the southern seas. She did find a human eco warrior to help her and fall in love with!

The underwater creatures and their singing and dancing were brilliant. Great effects for the water and some amazing acrobatic performances.

This picture is taken in the foyer/ bar area of the theatre which is decorated with the flotsam and jetsam of the sea.  Grace is wearing her 40th birthday outfit to represent the sea and Eda is wearing her mermaid’s tail. Granny didn’t have her underwater costume with her but I did wear my Guernsey Pearl!
There is a competition for the best costumes in attendance to win four free tickets but they have to be submitted on Instagram.  Grace isn’t sure if she will enter though someone commenting on her out fit at the interval said she should. I took some more by the production poster outside on her phone as we were leaving.

A lovely girls afternoon, a real treat.
