Christmas Aglow
We were up very early for Christmas Day - before six a.m as our festive clock always seems to still be set to the same time as when we were overexcited kids.
We stared with a strong coffee and then quickly moved on to a couple (o.k maybe three) glasses of Prosecco before the traditional Christmas morning bacon rolls and present opening.
I then helped my brother start making some homemade soup - tomato, baby new potato (it was supposed to be butter beans but I only realised I'd bought the wrong tin when we opened it), chorizo and rosemary to be precise with toasted cheese roll croutons - to be our Christmas meal starter.
For the rest of the morning me and my brother (we're always the Christmas Day chefs) were engaged in doing the remainder of the meal prep - chopping veg, peeling potatoes and roasting and basting the turkey interspersed with a fairly constant supply of alcoholic encouragement and watching some Christmas specials on the gogglebox - including Bake Off and Gone Fishing with the endlessly entertaining, and thoughtful, Bob Mortimer, Paul Whitehouse and of course Ted the dog.
It was then the final push to get the dinner ready - roasting the spuds and veg, getting the pigs in blankets and two types of stuffing in the oven and making the gravy and bread sauce. We finally sat down at around 4 p.m and I have to say it was all delicious - although we do so ourselves!
It was just the three of us today - me, my brother and my sister - and a very pleasant torpor ensued after our dinner to the extent that both my brother and sister had fallen fast asleep and I ended up watching the brilliant new Wallace & Gromit adventure on my own.
They both eventually emerged from their respective slumbers and we watched the wonderfully funny and emotional Gavin & Stacey finale followed by essential Christmas Day turkey sarnies.
My image is of our illuminated Christmas dining table at the end of our festive day. I hope all my fellow blippers had as lovely and relaxing a Christmas Day as we did!
