Living my dream

Brunch Chez Mima

Dear Blippers, whatever you do and however you pass today, I hope that it is everything that you hope for, and more.

Having had a looooong chat with brother #1, sil and niece - in England - this morning I was starving hungry by 11am and decided brunch was the go.

Fortunately it was quick to put together - most of the constituents already being in containers in the fridge - so I didn't pass out with hunger before the first mouthful*.

Poached eggs (freshly collected), sourdough toast (see yesterday), ginger and dill slaw, Moroccan carrot salad, pea and potato salad.

It filled the hole nicely.

I am enjoying the extraordinary silence of a day when there are no farm vehicles or commuters on the roads. It reminds me of the peace of lockdown. I have heard maybe five vehicles pass my gate so far today and wish that more days were like this.

All I can hear as I type this is the sound of Bean breathing deeply in her sleep, various birds twittering in the trees, the occasional flypast by a bee and the very faintest of buzzes from the fridge.

Afternoon plans will revolve around picking then processing peas, raspberries and goosegogs, watering some of the outdoor beds because so far the forecast rain is coming to nothing. And we have yet another severe thunderstorm watch in force.

The extra is how my FFL and his dog Reilly spent the morning. Sadly they're in the Marlborough high country, so it is unlikely I'll get a chunk of fresh fish on my doorstep!

*= I must have been getting lessons from Bean
