Unexpected Christmas
For the first time in many years I decided to celebrate Christmas at home. I usually go to my relatives in Denmark or to my friends somewhere in Sweden but this year I felt like staying at home on my own.
My neighbour Lena told me her daughter was coming to visit for a couple of days from her studies in Östersund, up north in Sweden and if I wanted to I would be welcome to join them at their simple Christmas meal whenr she arrived by bus during the afternoon. I said yes and we decided I would treat them to some Mulled wine and the traditional Christmas Disney show on Tv before we had our meal together in my neighbours house. That was the deal.
Half an hour before the daughters train arrived in Kalmar, my neighbour Lena called to ask if I could fetch her daughter at the station because her sewer had completely clogged up and her home was in a mess. She was going to try and fix it in the meantime. I know her daughter from before and went to fetch her but when we came back the sewer was far from fixed so we decided to have the Christmas meal at my place in stead. Which we did and after the mulled wine and Disney we had a lovely meal together. It was a joy to be able to help out just by using my space.
Lenas brother, his wife and her son was expected to visit Lena and her daughter later on in the evening but they came to my place in stead, where we had coffee and pudding together for a couple of hours before her brother, who is a cantor in the Swedish church, had to leave to play at a midnight Christmas service. When they left, my neighbour and her daughter went back to Lenas disaster area to make it useable for the night.
After they left I was contemplating this completely weird but very successful Christmas event for a while, feeling I'd had a bit hectic but a very good Christmas experience.
All in all, a feelgood Christmas explosion, worth remembering.
