Perky
Is there a perkier bird than a wren? I don't think so. This charismatic little thing is a Carolina Wren, a year-round species in our area and also a species that will sing in a shockingly loud tone of voice during any season. They are rather furtive and it's not uncommon that their big song is the first clue you have that one has snuck up on you. Anyway, since I hadn't yet posted one against my yardbirds list for this year, I thought it would make a good choice for today.
Jax has had a rash on his belly and "nether regions" for several weeks, but it never seems to last long enough to get him to the vet. Until yesterday when he licked several raw spots in the dainty areas. I tried putting some anti-itch ointment on him this morning but he just wanted to lick it off (I used silver-honey which is all natural but also apparently tastes good). Anyway, at 10:30 I called the vet thinking they could at least point me in the direction of something I could use that might work better - instead, they squeezed us in at 11:20. He got a cortisone shot, a pill to be administered once a day and a spray ointment twice a day. The vets at the practice we go to are just wonderful, getting down on the floor with him, making friends before doing any sort of exam and just generally making the dog feel as comfortable as possible in a scary place. We peppered him with treats while she completed a full exam. She said it is possibly a seasonal allergy of some sort - and if so, what he should be fine in a week. If he continues to be rashy, then we will work with the vet to change his diet to see if it is a food allergy. Hoping for the former. Anyway, he's sacked out on the couch now, which is normal for this time of day.
I tried a new keto chocolate cheesecake recipe and am just getting ready to take it out of the pressure cooker. It has to cool down then be refrigerated overnight. I am optimistic - it smells great!
Thanks for the love on yesterday's pic of Jax.
