Messing about in the kitchen
I haven’t been doing well at taking photos the last couple of days, so here I am getting ahead of Christmas dinner prep by making a gratin dauphinois. Unfortunately I didn’t put a baking tray under it, and it overflowed, so I’ve just been on my knees scrubbing the oven and the shelves . Always put a tray under your gratin, folks!
We did a mega shop in Tesco first thing yesterday. It could have been worse I suppose. It took us an hour, about half of it wandering round the huge store looking for things. Then we submitted to self-checkout hell because the queues for humans were so long. I hate those things and never use them normally. The nice assistant who repeatedly had to help us old fogies probably hates them too now. Every time I ventured to move something in the bagging area — to put it in a bag for example — it threw a tantrum.
Anyway, when we got back we recovered with a coffee before S went to see his mum while I put stuff away and cooked lunch. In the evening another nice session in the pool (26 lengths this time) and hammam. No photos taken on this day!
Today we both went to sit with S’s mum for an hour, and then to R and H’s for lunch. R had cooked a turkey crown with all the trimmings — delicious. Spoiler: we aren’t having turkey tomorrow. We tried not to eat and drink too much … I’m still supposed to be on a diet.
