Life's Little Moments

Baby, it's Cold Outside

We awoke to single digit temperatures this morning, as expected.  One of those days that is a little deceptive because the sun was shining brightly and you'd expect it to be a bit less frigid when you step outside.  Jax, being a dog with a single coat of extremely short hair, has kept his trips out brief and to the point.  That said, he did chase several squirrels to the fence before fleeing inside and laying in front of the fire.  Smart boy.

We had a nice FT chat with my parents this morning, both looking well.  We had hoped to catch the last farmers market of the season for some local winter squash, but apparently the temps were too much for them because the market was deserted when we arrived - can't say I blame them.  The trip wasn't a total loss, however, as we got ourselves and the dog out for a drive and we even stopped at a local apiary on the way home where I chatted with the beekeeper and bought some honey.  I've been meaning to stop in for months, and glad I finally did as the beekeeper was so friendly and interesting.  I will definitely go back.  And in the meantime, I will enjoy some locally sourced raw honey.

I snapped this shot through the living room window.  It was just too darned cold to be huddled outside with a camera today.  Surprisingly, the image is quite sharp even through my double-pane windows that aren't as clean as they could be.  I also took some pet pics of Charlie and Jax, but decided to go with the blue jay.

Dark with cayenne and dried cherries today
