Christmas Carols

I was on duty at church this morning as one of the acolytes, administering the chalice at communion. There was a poignant moment just before the service began when the death was announced of our dear friend Reverend Roger, who served St Luke’s for many years assisting as a non-stipendiary retired priest. A candle was lit in his memory. The names of both of my parents were read out in memoriam during prayers, as it is the anniversary of each of their deaths this week.

After a bit of lunch at home and a sit down, I was back at St Luke’s this afternoon helping with the refreshments for the Carol Service. Even singing all the traditional favourites, I still can’t really say I feel at all Christmassy. There were far more takers for tea - which I was serving - than coffee. Many mince pies were eaten, though not by me as I was too busy with the huge teapot and then a tea towel. We “tea ladies” were the last to leave in the darkness, and my blip is the view looking back down the driveway as we set off for home.

Feet up for the evening now, and resting my hip. It has become quite painful again over the past couple of weeks (I have been told after an x-Ray that I’m developing arthritis in it, and will probably need a hip replacement in the future). Tomorrow will be a day of final preparations and gift wrapping etc.
