Carols on the Beach
The beach was so dark this morning when I arrived that I couldn’t even see the sea, but what I did see were coloured fairy lights strung along groyne 5. At first I didn’t know what was happening but as I got closer I noticed a group of dippers standing singing carols in the darkness. They weren’t the Porty Blutits, but the Porty Sunflowers enjoying their last 7am swim before Christmas.
There were just 5 Bluetits making the trek into the water at 8am. By that time the lack of visibility of the sea was not due to darkness but because the tide was so far out it was almost impossible to see where it began.
I had a Stromness Selkie visit this afternoon. She is down in Edinburgh to ‘shop till she drops’ and apparently covered 13 miles yesterday in her quest but hasn’t dropped yet and looked incredibly sprightly today. We spent a lovely afternoon chatting - a perfect way to spend time on a drizzly grey day.
