History snapshot
Nik set off very early for the long drive to Swansea, where he'll be visiting friends for a couple of days. I took advantage of an early start to get a final bit of Christmas shopping done. That left some time to record a couple of murals that were on my route home. As ever, I'm keen to keep uploading mural images to the ArtUK public art project.
This one, by Jo Peel, is in the renovated yard of an old works building near the city centre. I found it by accident, as the one I'd intended to capture (nearby) had parked cars in front of it; I'll have to come back at a quieter time for that one.
I really like the way that Jo's vivid work shines out through the old archway. In the extra, you can see the whole piece (or almost) more clearly. There's a cafe there, which I didn't try out today, but it really looked worth a return visit sometime.
So there's every layer here, from the last 150 years or so. The old works itself; the hint of a ghost sign above the archway and to the right; and then the 21st century adaptations. Where men once worked in intense noise and dust, now you can order a beer or an oat milk latte...
