Sally Mair - Loving life

night lights

Yet again I've realised that I've failed to take any pictures today. I went into the garden after dinner, braving the threatened high winds to take a picture of some of the lights in the trees.
Dinner was good, seeing as how you wondered. First time in a long time I've cooked a roast beef and all the trimmings. The left over gravy will go nicely with the cottage pie I'm cooking for the family this week.
The rest of the day passed! Church first thing and we had the same celebrant as last week. He had stepped in today after a last minute cry for help as our interim pastor is unwell. Some churches were in pink vestments today for Gaudete Sunday, but that's not something we do. We did light the third candle in the Advent Crown though. This is one of my favourite Steeleye Span songs with the fabulous Maddy Prior.

One of our older congregation members was in need of comfort today having been the victim of a telephone scammer who had emptied all her bank accounts. She'd got the money back changed bank info etc but is now being inundated with emails and calls asking if she has bought something. She was quite distraught and spent a lot of the time in tears. She is alone and frightened as a result and for the time being can only get money by going into a bank, which, as she doesn't drive is very inconvenient. We comforted her as best we could, but I felt so angry that she had been hurt, she is such a gentle, loving soul.
After church I dropped Colin at home then went on a trawl of Edinburgh Sainsburys looking for a particular gift for Isobel that I wish I'd bought last week when I first saw it. Eventually I got great service from my own branch, which I'd tried first with no success but went back to try again. To my delight, the staff member
a) knew what I was looking for
b) was aware that the display had been taken down
c) was willing to go and look through the back for it
I got the last one - hooray. I then ordered an accompanying item online from another site as it wasn't available any other way, and discovered that postage was free this weekend. Result.
I've done something to my knee, think I must have twisted it awkwardly today. It's jolly uncomfortable and rather painful.
