Champagne at Chartwell

Visited Churchill's house at Chartwell. Interesting house but little mention of summer of the darker aspects of his career.
The house was beautifully dressed for Christmas.  Apparently every time Churchill came close to bankruptcy,  he'd write another essay to fund his champagne lifestyle.
Ventured on to Ightham Mote in the afternoon. A very interesting house with tudor painted ceilings. We made the mistake of stopping for coffee and then being refused re-entry to the grounds even though it was still 30 minutes to closing.
Walked down to the pub in the village when we got back to the holiday house.
