Philorth Halt on the GNR line from Maud Junction to Peterhead was built and maintained as a private station for Lord Saltoun as a condition of the railway being permitted to cross his Philorth estate. Although the station opened along with the rest of the line in 1865 it did not appear on public timetables until 1923 and until 1926 was reserved for the exclusive use of Lord Saltoun, his family, factor and mailing.
