Tir na nÓg

A cold but slightly bright day and I should have been doing sensible things but a holy well was calling. I have tried to find this well on at least two occasions and today I  thought I might be lucky and the bracken and briars might be manageable, Wrong. It's somewhere up on the hillside near a small stream and everywhere was very wet and boggy and the banks of the stream were impenetrable. The views were good though and I surprised a ram, who was wearing a harness, and enjoying a leisurely lunch.
I stopped off at this amazing little place on the way home, named Tir na nÓg, according to the estate agent, Land of Eternal Youth. I always know it as the Frenchman;s House and the Frenchman has been mostly awol for the last 20 years. Now it's for sale and I ambled along the rough path that leads to it and pressed my nose against the windows. It's an open plan downstairs with a huge inglenook and a ladder to a mezzanine above with two bed platforms. It needs a lot of work, is vey tiny and very damp but look at that view. And its eligible for a government restoration grant. Have a look here and it comes with acreage
The story of Tir na nÓg is a famous one and features Oisín and Niamh, I hope we might hear it in our Mythology class so I shall leave you with a cliff-hanger..
