Life is a Challenge!

TINY TUESDAY - A SENSE OF SCALE

I decided that I needed to do some domestic goddessing before I went out this morning, so the kitchen got a thorough clean - and of course, I felt better for doing it.  I was wondering what I could do for the TT challenge - the theme being “A Sense of Scale” - but nothing came to mind.

I had a little mooch around whilst shopping but as it was very cold, decided not to stay out for too long.  On the way home, I remembered that there is an old tree just down the road, which was brought down by Storm Darragh, so thought I would stop and take some shots of that, but I actually forgot and was pulling onto our drive before I remembered.

And then, inspiration struck!  On Sunday morning, Hilary, one of our ladies, did a lovely thing in Church.  She is a volunteer at the Community Fridge and said that God had spoken to her and said that we do such a lot for people in the community around our Church, but we sometimes forget that people in the Church also need encouragement.  With that in mind, she wondered what she could do and decided that as she knits a lot and that includes a lot of socks - she would knit some tiny socks from the oddments of wool that she has collected over the years.  I have seen some of her knitting which is beautiful and much of it is very intricate too.  I don’t know how long each sock took her to knit, but they are knitted and stitched up and then she has added the piece of ribbon to hang it, with a little button, so a lot of work was involved.

Just over four months ago, she started knitting and bearing in mind that we get well over 100 in our congregation and lots of children, Hilary has done a wonderful job and everyone who was there on Sunday was given one.

Speaking to Hilary this afternoon, she said that she made 149 and gave most of them away, leaving about 10.  Inside each tiny sock is a little chocolate and a scripture verse - so ours will go on our tree every year.  A friend of Hilary's offered to help, but Hilary felt that this was her "Prompt" from God, so wanted to do it herself and she did it so well.

I was hoping to find our own Christmas socks to show how tiny these hand-knitted ones are, but despite turning out two drawers, couldn’t find either pair, so these stripey ones, unworn by human feet will have to do, but at least, once again, I am “on theme”.

I know that several ladies knit tiny stockings to go in the Bags of Hope that go out, especially at Christmas time - so I hope that all those who receive them will save them and use them each year, as we plan to do.  I still haven’t got back to knitting yet - but will give it a try in the New Year - my eyes were very sore yesterday, so I don’t want to do anything to make them worse.

So a special THANK YOU  to Hilary - this lovely lady, who listened and acted on what God said to her - sort of reminds me of Mary, the Mother of Jesus!

This is the verse that was in my tiny sock:

For unto us a child is born,
     Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
     And His name will be called Wonderful,
Counsellor, Mighty God,
     Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6
