Day of pouring rain. Garden looks like a scene from 'The Day of the Triffids' as guy who said he'd cut the grass three times while we were away had never appeared. Ferns of gigantic proportions - selection of verdant weeds sprouting between slabs.
When I came to this house 35 years ago after my husband's wife was killed in a car accident, there was a very healthy avocado plant in the kitchen. Can't quite remember what happened to it but for years I've been soaking stones and have only recently perfected the technique - hence the avocado plants at the front of the window.
Bird box was Father's Day present to her Dad from my elder
daughter which we have never quite got around to putting up outside. Photos on the wall were selected and put up by older son and younger daughter, but need to be refreshed urgently as none of grandchilren are featured yet - and another one due in November.
Tomorrow is my elder son's birthday and also the wedding anniversary of Charles and Diana. My dad was living with us at the time of the ceremony and I have vivid memories of the day. One of my biggest regrets is that neither of my parents lived to know their grandchildren post infancy and for that reason I really value my time with mine. However my own children were lucky to have not only my husband's parents but also my husband's first wife's mother, Nell, who lived next door. Also a lady Bunty who helped in the house 3 mornings a week; children can never have too many people who love them!
