Today's the day ........................ for silhouettes

The daylight hours are really getting fewer and fewer as we steadfastly progress towards the winter solstice.  You really have to have either a very good camera - or lots of luck - if you want to get a decent picture of far away wildlife, especially birds on the wing.

The one above and the extra are really not much more than silhouettes in the sky - but I'm hoping you'll get the general idea of what's going on.  The above are geese on their way back to the Solway Marshes for the night, after spending the day feeding on pasture inland.  

The extra is one of the red kites that keep an eye on us - when they're doing their regular neighbourhood watch circular tour ......................
