We toured Opera House with a guide today.
Here is the facts I have learned:
Jorn Utzon, a Danish architect, whose design was selected in a 1957 international competition.
It was recognized as a World Heritage Site in 2007.
The design is inspired by a series of shell-like sails.
Roof: Made up of over 1 million white and matte cream tiles, imported from Sweden.
Dimensions: The building is 185 meters long and 120 meters wide.
Materials: Built using over 1600 kilometers of steel cables for strength and 6225 square meters of glass.
It has six performance spaces. This concert hall is the biggest, it has 2500 seats.
We also rode ferry to Manly beach.
It was raining, cloudy and sunny mixed day. Kind weather like Seattle, but with much higher humidity. We felt we were having sauna outside.
