THE RAIN DIDN'T DETER OUR CUSTOMERS!
It was raining very hard this morning, so I wondered if it would stop people coming to the Community Fridge this morning - but it didn’t! We had over 150 people in, many of them looking like drowned rats, but still smiling, which was great.
Yesterday and today, several different primary schools in the town took part in “Christmas Unwrapped”, when up to 360 10-11 year olds together with their teachers came to investigate the original Bible story of Christmas, working out what is "real" and what is “tinsel”.
Because of that, there was no café in the hall today, which disappointed many of our customers - you can see the bare hall in the bottom right shot - with the tables waiting for the children to arrive to make mince pies. They were all very well behaved and I’m sure they enjoyed the morning. There were some mince pies left over, so Mr. HCB had one that I brought home with his cup of tea this afternoon and pronounced it "very nice"!
It must be the first time for weeks that we haven’t had lots of squishy bananas but we did have lots of other fruit on offer, as you can see. We don't only provide food though, as you can see, there are also babies nappies because unlike years ago, most people use disposable ones, and these can be very expensive to buy.
It was good to be able to chat to the customers as they were choosing their 5 items - but I think many of them wanted to come in and then go home quickly. It certainly wasn’t a day to be hanging around!
After my stint at the Community Fridge, I went out to deliver three Bags of Hope and can imagine the delight on the faces of some of the children when they see the different goodies in the bag!
It is such a worthwhile venture and we hope that these bags will tide people over so they can pick themselves up and move on in their lives.
Hope you’ve had a good day, despite the weather - I understand we need to “batten down the hatches” again this weekend. Mr. HCB has checked around all our fences and they seem quite stable so we hope they stay that way!
I must apologise for not responding to comments last night, but I was out for a Worship Group practice - I am singing on Sunday - and was pleased that I even managed to drive myself there in the dark - something I'm not keen on doing, but again, I did it! I will try and catch up with you all soon.
