Helvellyn
We had a fairly early start - out of the house by 8am, and walked Helvellyn from the Thirlmere side. A covering of snow (and plenty of ice) overnight had transformed it into the most amazing scenery. Clear conditions all the way up were fabulous (my ability to get up the third highest mountain in England was testimony to my continued recovery). After Helvellyn we continued on to Nethermost Pike - at which point the weather closed in.
A very tricky descent - we were sensible and did have our crampons with us, though we were amazed at the numbers who didn't and were really struggling. In the clouds we managed to see our Brocken Spectres, and the clearing skies were simply fabulous. (2 extras)
