HONEY BEE

Not just another bee on a flower - this is a HONEY BEE. My other bee blips were Bumblebees. The honey bee is somewhat smaller, while the Bumblebee seems like a fur ball in comparison. The honey bee is distinguished by the production and storage of honey and making a nest out of wax, but most importantly they are necessary for the pollination of many crops.

Last year the Honey Bee population declined by over 31% and scientists fear the collapse of the agriculture industry since more than 100 crops rely on honey bees for pollination. Scientists think agriculture chemicals (pesticides) are the cause, and may hinder the honey bees' ability to resist infection. There were about a half dozen gathering pollen here today, so I'm hoping they're doing well in this area.

I had good shots of bees face-forward, etc. but liked the view of the body and especially the wings from this angle.
