It's a new month!
Where did the last one go.. I have no idea!
We woke to a dismal damp and deary morning and I really couldn't tear myself from my bed but I managed it eventually (mid morning.. whatever that means) in time for a late breakfast and delicious coffee. Then what.. well, we have a weird utility room with half cloakroom and half laundry, freezer and walk in cupboard.. we also have nowhere to keep brooms, mops, ironing boards and the like other than propped and stacked around what is quite a small space. For a long time I have hankered after a mop cupboard so we decided today was the day we would discuss what my husband might be able to conjure out of the little space we have. Always fun to have a planning time.. to talk it through and see whether, once voiced and measured, the plan even has legs!! I don't think our original plan would work so it was back to brainstorming. We do have a largish walk in cupboard in the space.. with very deep shelves that are just really difficult to see to the back of or to reach into to retrieve what you want and over the years I have cleared and sorted tupperware and jams but things get shoved in and forgotten. Today I decided we could rearrange the shelves to make jam storage a joy rather than a marathon of waving a hand around in a spidery back of shelf to retrieve the last post of marmalade.. (well worth retrieving though I say it myself!!) So for now my husband is going to remove two deep shelves and put three narrower shelves at the back to keep the jam on, We will then have a nice waist high shelf at full depth to store things we use often and two deep ones for the big jam pans and spare kettle etc that are used but not regularly. Anyway.. that is all pretty boring for you lot.. so I will cut to the picture for today.. While I was delving deep into spider territory behind all the things we use regularly.. I found.. not one or two but.. 19 biscuit tins!! I know I am not the only person that buys things in nice tins! Time to own up!! I found 16 to start with and we each chose two to keep that we loved then I made sure we had 2 other useful sized ones and I have kept just 6 (i know too many still but they are lovely!!) and my husband found a use for three.. so we are throwing away (or giving to charity ) the other 10!! My cupboard is now jolly nearly empty!! I cannot tell you how much joy that has given me.. and I cannot wait for the cupboard shelving rearrangement to happen .. I have more removals to do during the week and hopefully next weekend we will feel more happy with the space. There might even be somewhere to put the bucket under the shelves and the broom hanging on one wall.. that would be wonderful!
The recycling bin is nearly full! Now for a quiet evening making presents.. sewing for me!
