Sally Mair - Loving life

By Sallymair

Santa Baby.....

I've been an awful good girl....
Today was non stop from the moment I got up. I'd decided yesterday to have a couple of posters printed and laminated for our Christingle on Christmas Eve. I wanted to display them at our children's concert today. That meant a quick trip on the bus into town where they were done very quickly for me with an extra copy thrown in for free because the assistant said it was for a good cause. How kind.
.Next stop was the Cornerstone Bookshop under St Johns to pick up a couple of books of bible reading notes for some of our housebound members . Sadly this is the last time I'll do that as the shop is closing at the end of December after 30 years.
Back home on the bus and it was time for a quick sandwich then off to church. We need to move the Altar etc, make spaces for buggies and generally get ready for our two musicians this afternoon. Isla Ratcliff, fiddler and Evie Waddell singer, dancer and BSL signer. Professional musicians, they were putting on a show thanks to Live Music Now - it was aimed at under 5's - but who's counting - in the church.
Next it was onstage for some remarkably harmonious carol singing with a scratch mini choir from our church and the parish church. A good sound and lots of applause.
The concert had started by the time we finished and everyone was having a great time with well over 50 people participating and others watching.
I went for a wander around the stalls, the firepit with toasted marshmallows was a definite hit this year. Personally, I thoroughly enjoyed my fresh burger for the bargain price of £3.50 including cheese and onion should you want them - I skipped the cheese. All this before 2.30, I needed the burger I can tell you, as I was beginning to flag.
I went and sat in church for the last ten minutes of the concert. By the time I came out again the grounds were heaving. There were indoor and outdoor stalls and many under canvas too. I bought some tablet for next time I go travelling and a naughty wee poke of what used to be called penny sweeties - it cost £2.50 phew, that's inflation!!.
Back into the church and time to clear up and leave it ready for the first service at 9.00 am tomorrow morning.
When I came out, I was very pleased to see that Santa's queue had gone down so went into his VW bus to have a wee chat and make sure he knew where I lived. He found me last year ok.

Happy St Andrews Day folks, we had a good one and finished with haggis neeps and tatties to mark the occasion. 1st of December tomorrow, time to open the Advent Calendar and light the candle. I really must do some Christmas shopping.
