Cleethorpes

The Airbnb room I'd booked for last night turned out well, hosted by a couple in their '70s, in a small Lincolnshire village. I was a bit worried that I'd disturb them when I woke up not long before 6.  I needn't have worried, as J (the husband) set off not long after that for a 3 week work trip to the US. At nearly 80, he's still working as an expert adviser in international development.  J (the wife) told me over breakfast that her husband has had both knees and both hips replaced; "the full set, then", I said and we laughed. "His brain's fine though" she said.
The morning was misty and I decided to go into Cleethorpes before heading home, rather than going back to Donna Nook. I hadn't been to Cleethorpes for many, many years.  I got a bit fascinated by the architecture and the shops along the promenade, and had a good walk. En route I saw large displays about regeneration; Cleethorpes was awarded some £18 million of "levelling up" funding in the dying days of the Tory government.  The plans are all out to consultation at the moment. Some of them sound good; I just hope it doesn't all run into the sand......
