The North Side Of The Bridge

Big Bloke and Ginger Boy had a boys' day out at York Maze today. This left Sporty Boy and I at a loose end so we took ourselves off to East Yorkshire to watch Scunthorpe play North Ferriby United in yet another friendly.

This meant venturing across the Humber Bridge which always feels like a great adventure. I can remember being taken as a little kid to see the bridge being built and wondering what would happen if the two sides didn't quite match up in the middle. I can also remember missing an afternoon of lessons to watch the grand opening on a tv in the school hall so it must have been a really big deal round here. Consequently I have a bit of a soft spot for the old bridge.

North Ferriby is a really pretty village on the north bank of the Humber with very friendly locals. With the sun shining Sporty Boy and I were in high spirits, until the football started. We were pretty awful and had no complaints when the final score was 1-0 North Ferriby. Who incidentally were four divisions below us last season. It was a long drive home ...
