Ratskeller

After work, today, we walked south from our hotel, through the busy streets to the Old Town and, more specifically, Marienplatz.

Everywhere seems to be developing a Christmassy vibe, aided by the lights and all the people wrapped up against the cold.

The Christmas markets aren’t open yet - a restraint I wholeheartedly applaud - but we passed people setting their stalls up as you can see in today’s photo.

My impression was that we were just wandering about, a misapprehension that persisted is we walked through an arch into the courtyard in front of the Rathaus*. Even as we approached a small group of people outside some double doors I thought we were still a-mooching.

As it turned out, we were having dinner at the Ratskeller, which we entered by some wide stairs. The restaurant itself was gorgeous, and huge, too! Our waiter was charming and the food was excellent. What a fantastic surprise :-)
