On This Day

Picturesque Notes

A friend who was round for coffee this morning brought me this book. Published in 1903 he'd found it in a charity shop. The original price was Sixpence Nett. I don't know what he paid. By coincidence I've just finished Alastair Moffat's book about Edinburgh so it'll be interesting to compare them.

I'm off to collect the girls from school this afternoon and I'll not be back till later. Will try to catch up with blip sometime.

Quoting Stevenson:

"... Edinburgh pays cruelly for her high seat in one of the vilest climates under heaven."

"And yet the place establishes an interest in people's hearts; go where they will, they find no city of the same distinction; go where they will, they take a pride in their old home".
