Accidental gardening
The garden is looking very lush at the moment, thanks to the rain over the last couple of months. It is also looking somewhat unkempt in places...but I'll pass over that.
This is the corner by my bedroom window where a deeply-scented rose is blooming, alongside a simply enormous rogue kale, and the start of the annual jasmine display. It is rather attractive. Given that I'm not interested in hopeless with pretty gardening, it is a remarkable feat.
The extra is of the tunnel house, now almost full. Tomatoes on the left, with their upturned bottles for watering straight to the roots. Sweetcorn on the right. And in the foreground on the right are the cucumber plants, still in their pots until they have grown a little bigger.
You might spot a grapevine in a pot, along with dill and coriander on the staging. The strawberries and three potatoes in bags are hidden behind there.
I had a long list when the day started. It is now 3.30pm and I have got through everything: a rare occurrence indeed.
It was helped by yet another grey day of sea mist which has crept all the way inland, so I have felt no inclination to be outside all day and the kitchen tasks are therefore complete.
Being outside hasn't been as peaceful as I am used to. There is some old car rally going on a kilometre or two away, and the sound of screaming engines has intermittently filled the air all afternoon.
You probably won't be surprised to hear that I hate these sorts of event with every fibre of my being. The noise is the least of it. The continued popularity of such activities only serves to illustrate how very far we have to go before we take the destruction of planet in the slightest bit seriously.
On that note...
