Library Closed Week of July 13-16

They've got to be kidding!

This is the 4th week of a 6 week summer school session at the campus. I am working 2 weeks supervising the Writing Center this summer.

So the beginning of this week I was utterly stunned when students starting coming in to announce that they could not get into the library because it is being painted.

This fall the accreditation team from the State of California will arrive to assess our school. The goal is to achieve accreditation and receive "college" status and to no longer be a satellite of the Riverside campus. So we will become 3 colleges in 1 district, rather than what we are now, 1 college with 3 campuses. For the past several years lots of committees and reports have been prepared in preparation of this big event.

Now in the final days leading to the visitation, the actual facility is being polished. That's nice, but it certainly would have been better to wait 2 ½ weeks more to close the library for an entire week so it could be painted. Egads! Students cannot get to the reserved books nor the reference books. This is crazy.

Only 1 day more and I will be done and back to summer vacation away from the campus. After yesterday's drama, library issues seemed so much lighter. Thanks for all of yesterday's sensitive, tender comments.
