A two shower day
The sweetcorn are finally planted, along with a couple of melons, a butternut squash and four tomato plants. I really underestimated the time it would take to clear and prepare the bed, but it is done - and only a day later than I'd planned. Mind you, a couple of other jobs have been postponed as a result...
The long bed in the tunnel is therefore almost full: just the cucumbers need to grow a bit before being planted.
The remaining 14 tomatoes will be planted next, into the short bed in the tunnel, but I must give it a long water first.
I got thoroughly splattered in soil and water (= mud) while I was working in the there. It was 23C outside, and well over 35C under the plastic. And thanks to the amount of water I was splashing and sprinkling around the place, the humidity went sky-high. I came out dripping and filthy, and straight into a cool cleansing shower, which felt wonderful.
The morning was spent in town at the final exam in my 2024 timetable. I have enjoyed them, as I do every year. However, like every year I am happy they are over, so that I can dedicate my time to Chez Mima, and so that I don't have to hoozle myself and my dog out of the house early in the morning day after day.
Speaking of that dog, she was the subject of the only photograph I took today. She was in close attendance while I picked broad beans.
She stared intently at every pod as it came off the plant and fell into the bucket. And as before, some magic occurred which resulted in a few beans landing in her mouth.
How this actually happens is one of life's great mysteries.
