Kippax Christmas Lights Switch On

They always make a good show of the event starting at 2.30pm  with the lights switch on and firework display at 5pm. Lots of stalls, fairground rides and games, plus stalls, all down the main street, all the shops open, stalls in the Chapel and Church Hall, tea and food served all over. There is a main stage where various entertainment takes place singing, and dancing and of course Father Christmas. The main Street is closed to through traffic of course from first thing in the morning.

These are a few of the shops and fireworks (which were taken from home as I can see them from there but don't get a good photo)  Santa's Grotto is usually the nail bar, the other two are the Prince of Wales charity shop. I could hear the children in the distance all enjoying themselves. I don't go up later it's so busy, they come from all over, but I did go this morning as I had to go to the Coop and I saw all the preparations going on.

I spent the afternoon in the garden taking up the cosmos that the frost has killed and cutting back some of the tree at the end of the garden, as this is the last day for garden bin collection until March, but I notice there are not many out and being at the top of the cul-de-sac and next doors car in the way they may not see my bin out, They missed it last year for the same reason.

It has been a mild but pleasant day, with the occasional light shower.

We have been lucky I feel so sorry for the people in parts of Wales who have been flooded. Mind you the road to Castleford (Barnsdale Road) is under threat at the moment, the nearby fields are now under water as they are the flood catchment areas for the Aire and Calder Navigation river and canal. Some of it is drained off to St Aidans RSPB lakes when it is rising but Barnsdale Road has it's own website on Facebook and a watch is on it for flooding and to alert people who are going to use it for work so they know to take the long route round if it floods.
Even so some people do try to drive through and have to be towed out (for a fee) by the lads with the 4x4s

Another weekend gone in a flash, hope yours was a good one
