Sally Mair - Loving life

Stir it up!

I finally got my act together today, inspired by both HazelH's blip yesterday and by our interim pastor this morning. I made the Christmas puds this afternoon. Not as the bowl on the yet to be cooked one says, Fortnums& Mason, but Morris(my grandmother whose recipe it is) & Mair who as ever completely failed to follow said recipe. I always feel recipes are there as a suggestion rather than a rigid instruction. In any case, I don't think my great grandmother had several of the ingredients I used to hand or she would perhaps have used them too. I made three, the first off which will be confirmed before the day in order to check the recipe tastes ok.
My title today doesn't come from this, much as I like it.....

But from this...... the Collect(prayer) for today, the feast of Christ the King and the last Sunday before Advent:
Stir up, we beseech thee, O Lord, the wills of thy faithful people; that they, plenteously bringing forth the fruit of good works, may of thee be plenteously rewarded; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Known informally as Stir up Sunday from the first words of the prayer, it's traditionally the day that Christmas puddings are made - the last pay day before Christmas and still a decent interval to allow them to mature.
Lots of traditions this is the 'right' time to make them, so I'm very pleased with myself - not smug though that wouldn't be very Christian!

Two finished and one still to be cooked, but that's for tomorrow, a good result.
A good result in church too when I persuaded someone to hunt in the storage shed for the Nativity Figures and they found them, hooray
