I am considering starting my own Influencers in the Wild social media site.

I was plonked with my book at a coffee shop (mistake to frequent places with only outdoor seating, as the city is currently a furnace) when I became an accessory to a shoot by some influencers. Or they may be better termed ‘content creators’.

A couple was repeatedly filmed pulling up, the gent getting out of the car, opening the door chivalrously for his girlfriend, and walking hand in hand to the coffee shop. They reshot many times, but one discarded reel was caused by me scratching my armpit absentmindedly in the background. After buying coffee there was a lot of performative cooing and imbibing on the table next to me. Their entourage of advisors was at least half a dozen strong.

I haven’t got the energy to be embroiled in such behaviours. I cannot even begin to imagine what I’m going to be like when I am eighty. Stick around if you can bear it.
