Chester FC 2 Chorley 1

A really enjoyable game today as Chester deservedly beat the league leaders Chorley 2-1. It should have been a bigger margin and when Chorley scored with 5 minutes to go it was a bit nail biting but Chester saw the game out.

This season is the 50th anniversary of Chester reaching the League Cup Semi-Final when they were in Division 4 in the 1974/75 season. On the way they convincingly beat the League Champions Leeds United 3-0 in the 4th Round. Leeds played a full strength team consisting of 11 internationals and I firmly believe it one of the greatest giant killing acts of all time but it is a result that few people will know about. In those days there was no TV coverage so you had to be there and I was fortunate to be in attendance.

Today we reunited the surviving members of the team for the first time since the 1970s and all of them  were able to attend with the exception of one player living in Portugal. It was a terrific day which I'm sure they enjoyed and at half time we presented them with team pictures from that season.
