Tongland Brig
Today's the day ....................... for a postcard
Unlike parts of the country to the north and south of us, we seemed to escape the extreme weather today. The Kirkcudbright Vintage Fayre in the Parish Church Hall was able to carry on as planned, unlike quite a lot of similar events elsewhere that were forced to cancel.
One of the stallholders in Kirkcudbright had already got in touch with Will to say that he had an old postcard that he thought Will might be interested in - as shown above. And the reason why we were indeed very interested to see it, is that, nestling between the bridges halfway up on the left hand side of the picture, is the cottage that we presently live in.
Of course, it all looks a bit different now because the railway bridge in the distance is no longer there - but readers of this journal will recognise the much-blipped Telford Bridge in the foreground. There are lots more trees now obscuring the view, so it is very interesting to see how it looked more than a hundred years ago.
What's also interesting (to us at any rate) is that the cottage, most definitely has a front door. That is now a window and there is no door at the front at all. There are also now dormer windows in the roof which must have been added at a later date.
Fascinating stuff .....................
