Friday Night Dinner
Today's the day ....................... for Jamie Oliver
For a while now, I've been feeling that the cuisine on offer in this house has got stuck in a culinary rut.
It's easy to know why this has happened - it's much simpler to stick to what you know, when you haven't the time, energy or inclination to stray away from what you know will work. But when I was working in the Charity Shop recently, I came upon a cookery book by Jamie Oliver entitled 'Jamie's 30 Minute Meals' - and I cooked up a little plan.
Every Friday night (when it's possible) one of us will choose one of the recipes out of Jamie's book and will be responsible for dishing it up in its entirety. So obviously that's going to involve a bit of planning to make sure that we have all the required ingredients in the house beforehand. It was my turn tonight and the menu was:
Pork chops & Crispy Crackling
Crushed Potatoes
Minty Cabbage
with Apricots 'n' Custard to follow
The book gives step by step instructions (with pictures) - which was necessary because it was cooked in quite a different way from my normal practice. It was good fun to do things differently - but more to the point, it was all absolutely delicious.
I'm looking forward to next week, when it'll be Will's turn ....................!
